Tribute for GREAT WHITE Guitarist Planned
February 26, 2003GREAT WHITE guitarist Ty Longley, among 97 people killed in a nightclub fire in Rhode Island, will be remembered with a musical tribute featuring groups from his home town, his family said Wednesday.
"It's going to be a jam session," Ty's father, J. Patrick Longley, told the Associated Press. "I don't want it to be a concert. I want it to be music.''
No date has been set for the tribute, which will be open to the public, relatives said.
The tribute will be at a ballroom in Brookfield, about 40 miles southeast of Cleveland, where Longley grew up.
"I lost a son. I lost a buddy and I lost a hero," Patrick Longley said. "My ex (wife) said it best: His heart was bigger than his hair."
It was unclear whether the surviving band members would attend the tribute. The band's publicist, Byron Hontas, said it would depend on how long they would have to stay in Rhode Island.
